<image:title>How I Can Help - Creating the life you want.</image:title>
<image:caption>I believe counseling should focus on supporting the client to build a life worth living. Therapy should be a space where you can let go of who you “should be” and develop a healthier relationship with who you want to be. Only you know what life “fits” you best, but it is helpful to have someone along for that journey to point out lessons along the way. My goal is to help you identify what in your life keeps you stuck, what roles and values fulfill you, and how to minimize the former while maximizing the latter.</image:caption>

<image:title>How I Can Help - Accepting reality as it is, pushing for change where we can.</image:title>
<image:caption>Many of us know the words of the Serenity Pledge: "Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” Our time together focuses on a warm approach of openness, compassion, and an appreciation of your amazing strengths. Let’s celebrate your wins and keep (gently) pushing forward in the areas where more growth is possible!</image:caption>

<image:title>How I Can Help - Untangling the threads that connect us to past, present, and future.</image:title>
<image:caption>I have always found the “invisible red thread” proverb to be descriptive of the work we do in therapy: noticing the threads that connect you to the people around you, pulling on the threads of interest and seeing what insights they lead us to, honoring threads that connect us to the past, while staying anchored in the present and turned with our gaze towards the future. Let’s strengthen the “thread connections” that serve you, and create distance from connections that do not!</image:caption>

<image:title>LGPC Supervision - I’m on your team.</image:title>
<image:caption>I serve as a Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapist Approved Clinical Supervisor for Licensed Graduate Professional Counselors (LGPCs). I apply the Discrimination Model (Bernard, 1997) of supervision when working with supervisees. I will shift between my roles as your consultant, counselor, and teacher to help meet your needs in three crucial focus areas for developing clinicians: intervention skills, conceptualization skills, and personalization skills. Let’s grab a coffee and celebrate your wins, lean into your strengths, address your concerns, and identify your growth areas together! Bernard, J. M. (1997). The discrimination model. In C. E. Watkins, Jr. (Ed.), Handbook of psychotherapy supervision (p. 310–327). John Wiley & Sons Inc.</image:caption>

<image:title>Who I Am - Hey there!</image:title>
<image:caption>I’m Tyler Howard, LCPC. As a Queer, neurodivergent person from the South, I lived decades of my life as a version of myself that showcased only a tiny sliver of my True Self. I know firsthand the toll this “masking” has on our mental and physical health. It is much easier to face life’s challenges when we are not wasting time and energy conforming to the expectations of others. My own therapy journey has (and continues to) given me the tools I needed to free that True Self and put it in the driver’s seat. It would be an honor to pay this gift forward as your therapist! While I practice general psychotherapy, I encourage you to look at the “How I Can Help” tab for more information on my specialties. You and I will decide together if I am a good fit for what you want to get out of therapy. If I’m not, please let me help you connect with a therapist who will meet your needs.</image:caption>

<image:caption>We chat my email, text, phone, or video call….whatever is the most comfortable for you! This is our chance to get to know each other a little better and make sure we both think I am the best therapist for the job; if I’m not, I’ll help you look for the right one and send you some recommended referrals to check out. I’ll tell you more about my therapy style, my thoughts on your goals for therapy, and answer any questions you might have about the process.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Send me a message from the “Let’s Connect!” page including information about how I can get in contact with you, what you are hoping to work on, and if you will be using insurance benefits. This information helps me be best prepared for our consultation call, so I can answer any questions you have and present my vision for your unique therapy journey. I’ll get back to you ASAP with a couple of times we could chat that week and let you pick the day and time that works best for your schedule.</image:caption>

<image:title>How We Get Started - 3. Setting up our first session</image:title>
<image:caption>If we’re both feeling it, we will end the call scheduling an intake session and with me sending you a couple intake forms to complete before our first session by email. Those can be filled on your computer or by pen, depending on what you’re feeling. Once you’ve emailed back those couple forms and you’ve picked the day and time that works best for you, we’re ready to go! You’ll receive an email and/or text reminder, depending on your preferences, two days and one day before the session.</image:caption>

<image:title>How We Get Started - 3. Our first session</image:title>
<image:caption>If you elected to meet virtually: I will send you a calendar invitation with your initials that includes a Google Meets link, and this URL will place you in our private virtual counseling room whenever you’re ready to join. If you elected to meet in-person: You’ll shoot me a text when you’ve parked and you are ready to go. My office is located at Maryland Presybyterian Church off Providence Road, in Parkville, MD. I will text you inviting you to meet me at the front door with a mask on. Once we exchange some hand sanitizer I will lead you upstairs and into the therapy office. There, we can take off our masks if you are comfortable, or keep them on if you prefer.</image:caption>
